Job Type: Full time, Part time, Salaried

Wage: $45,000-$55,000/yr.

Location: Salida, CO.

Job Description:

The School Counselor at SMCS will assist with classroom presentations for the social and emotional well-being of students, support teachers in creating and implementing behavior plans, do small group and individual counseling for students related to behavioral health needs. In grades K-8, a counselor could provide career and academic planning, and transition support, including creating strong partnerships with our feeder school, for our middle school students who attend Salida High School upon completing 8th grade in Montessori.


Full Time or Part Time Position Available


Qualifications Required:

  • Must have or obtain a license through the Colorado Department of Education’s (CDE) licensing department within 60 days of hire. 

  • Master's Degree or higher in School Counseling as defined by accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling or Related Educational Programs

  • Minimum of 100 clock hour practicum

  • Minimum of 600 clock hour internship, with multiple grade levels of students under the supervision of a licensed school counselor

  • Passing of the Colorado state approved content exam

  • Qualified to work with children ages 0-21



Responsibilities:

  • Manage and facilitate MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) team

  • Coordinate with the Special Education team, classroom teachers, and parents for optimal support for each student.

  • Coordinate and facilitate social/emotional small groups  

  • Create and implement behavior plans

  • Individual counseling

  • Listen to students' concerns about academic, emotional, or social problems

  • Help students process their problems, plan goals, and action steps

  • Mediate conflict between students and teachers

  • Developing, implementing, and managing school guidance programs

  • Working with students in individual, small group, and classroom settings

  • Use listening skills and offer empathy in order to build relationships

  • Perform assessments and coordinate activities and educational efforts

  • Team player that works cohesively and collaboratively with co-workers
