Wage: $22-$29/hr.

Location: Salida, CO.

Job Description:

Do you have a passion for basketball and enjoy working with youth? Salida Parks & Recreation is seeking an energetic and positive Youth Basketball Instructor to lead basketball programs for local youth participants.

This position is responsible for planning and delivering engaging basketball instruction for youth participants in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plan and lead youth basketball practices, clinics, and instructional programs.
• Teach basketball fundamentals including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and game strategy.
• Develop age-appropriate drills and activities that promote skill development and confidence.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for all participants.
• Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive participation.
• Ensure participant safety and adherence to program rules and facility guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and Parks & Recreation staff.
• Set up and take down program equipment before and after programs.
• Monitor equipment and report supply needs.
• Maintain attendance records and complete incident reports as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience playing, coaching, or instructing basketball.
• Ability to effectively engage and motivate youth participants of varying ages and skill levels.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• CPR/First Aid certification is preferred (or ability to obtain).

Compensation:

$22 - $29/hour dependent upon experience

Schedule

• Part-time, seasonal position.
• Camp schedules may include weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends.
• 2-4 hours a week / January 1, 2027 - March 7, 2027

Physical Requirements

• Ability to actively participate in basketball instruction and demonstrations.
• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, running, bending, reaching, and other physical activities associated with youth sports instruction.
