Job Description:
The Destination Imagination Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the district’s Destination Imagination teams. This includes organizing teams of interested students at each building, finding and training volunteer coaches, organizing parent and student informational sessions, managing competitions, and fostering a supportive and engaging environment that encourages teamwork among students.
There are two sessions per year. The stipend is $2,000 per session, or $4,000 total.
- High school diploma and previous knowledge of DI program is required.
- Coach Coordination and Training: Recruit and train volunteer coaches for each team, including facilitating background checks. Organize and lead training sessions for coaches, developing strategies to enhance the teams’ performances.
- Event Supervision: Supervise students during Destination Imagination practices, regional and state events, ensuring their safety and adherence to school policies. Help find practice locations for teams.
- Motivation and Support: Foster a positive and motivating environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Act as a resource for volunteer coaches when questions arise, helping them source materials and work through team challenges.
- Team Management: Recruit and manage Destination Imagination team members, ensuring active participation and commitment. Facilitate creation of and oversees progress of all DI teams across multiple schools in the district.
- Competition Preparation: Prepare teams for regional and state competitions, including arranging travel, accommodations, and necessary permissions. Help team coaches find necessary volunteers for tournaments. Develop instant challenge practice for all teams.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with students, parents, coaches, and school administration regarding team activities, schedules, and achievements.
- Record Keeping and Fundraising: Maintain records of team activities, achievements, and progress throughout the school year. Write grants and organize fundraisers necessary for costs associated with competitions, like supplies and state registration fees.
