Job Description

Lake County is located two hours west of Denver in the heart of Colorado’s highest peaks at 10,200 feet. There are about 7,000 people in Lake County, and Leadville is the main city. Many adults commute to work in the service industry in nearby ski areas.  We have a strong history of mining, adventure recreation, and outdoor enthusiasm. Lake County Intermediate School consists of about 300 students in grades 3-6 with three classroom teachers per grade.

We are seeking a 3rd  Grade Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

Reports To: Building Principal – Lake County Intermediate School (LCIS) 

Length of AssignmentStudent Calendar Linked here : 179 teacher contract days, 162 student contact days. Teaching days are on a 4-day work week beginning in August and ending in June. New teacher contract begins 8/1/25.

Salary:  LCSD Teacher Salary Schedule (will be negotiated in the Spring for 2025-2026 school year)

Primary purpose: Contribute to our school as part of our crew by teaching dynamic, comprehensive curricula throughout the day. Relationships, student-led learning, safety, and data driven instruction are fundamental components to help each student grow to their capacity. We believe in providing a high quality, equitable education for every student that includes providing authentic educational experiences inside and outside the classroom. At Lake County Intermediate School, we hold our students to high academic and behavioral expectations and empower them to become the leaders of their own learning. As educators we are continuously growing and learning and a culture of feedback is important to our work.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: 

  • Teach a prescribed curriculum in: Language Arts (Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts grades 3-5, Amplify grade 6), Mathematics (Bridges grades 3-5, Reveal grade 6), Science or Social Studies (Core Knowledge), and social/emotional skills (Second Step)  
  • Backward plan as a collaborative team while maintaining an intentional focus on the standards and student achievement
  • Use the Crew structure (morning meeting) to develop strong relationships with each student to foster a sense of Crew based on mutual trust and respect
  • Adhere to the LCIS Common Content Expectations and Learning Environment Expectations
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials 
  • Develop intervention groups based on data and adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction
  • Evaluate students’ academic growth by progress monitoring, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports
  • Support students’ development of academic portfolios to showcase high quality work
  • Provide differentiated instruction based on linguistic, academic, and social-emotional needs and provide comprehensible instruction for all students
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, email, notes, and in-person to discuss students’ progress
  • Develop READ plans and contribute to IEP development and implementation, as needed
  • Collaborate with peers to identify and support the needs of the whole child 
  • Document learning through documentation panels
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, such as Outdoor Education experiences
  • Administer interim assessments, standardized tests, and progress monitoring in accordance with testing programs (NWEA: MAPS, DIBELS, CMAS)
  • Maintain professional competencies by participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Professional Development (PD), Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Staff Meetings, and other collaborative teams for the benefit of the school  
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university
  • Colorado Teaching License: Elementary Education Grades K-6
  • Demonstrated competency in the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and computer proficiency
  • Experience with students who are Multilingual
